The biggest changes for marriages between Western men and Ukrainian women have begun in 2015. Exactly then the number of such marriages doubled unexpectedly. That is the year when the number of divorces in Ukraine surpasses the number of registered marriages.
The further the worse: in 2017 government gave A Marriage certificate to 219 000 couples and the Divorce certificate - to 33 169, in 2018 - 229 000 couples decided to marry and 53 860 couples have chosen divorce instead of working about their relationships. Just keep in mind that till summer 2019 in Ukraine only 24 000 marriages are registered between a Ukrainian man and Ukrainian woman. These numbers show an incredible growth of interest in marriages with men from other countries. Ukrainian women aspire to have a stable life with a decent man and they claim they are ready for daily work about relationships, cherish and care of them when there is a serious man by their side.

This list also includes Latvia, Lithuania, Bosnia, and Belarus. While each country has its own problems which lead to divorces, we are going to name the main reasons for Ukraine.

- alcoholism leads to divorce every 5th marriage
- economical and financial difficulties in the family lead to divorces in 20% cases
- cheating, jealous, etc. - 12%
- misunderstanding in sex life - 5%
- the inability of one of the partners to have children - 4%
Who initiates the divorce in Ukraine
To answer this question we need to go back to the reasons for divorce and make a conclusion. Ukraine is known as a country where alcohol is popular and people drink a lot. That’s a fact. The number of men who drink alcohol is much bigger than women. Women initiate divorces oftener than men exactly because of this fact. If to count that every 5th marriage fails because of this addiction then it’s evident.
How about other reasons? Ukraine is a traditional country with a patriarchal way of thinking. Women see their main role in becoming a good mother who takes care of her children, her husband, and family in general. However, she is a very strong woman who also finds time to work, help relatives, look after herself and always look good smiling and joking whatever happens. Most of the women in Ukraine are like that.
Men take the leading position in everything: earn more money, drink more alcohol and cheat. When Ukrainian woman feels strong enough to leave her husband and be responsible for the life of her children and her own she initiates divorce.
Do men in Ukraine initiative divorce? Men are surrounded by pretty women all the time. They can have a comfortable life even without divorce. But yes, it happens they initiate divorce because of the same reasons the women do that though it happens much rare.
